Rachel + Trey's Spindletop Wedding
From the Bride: Trey and I are true Kentuckians and thus chose Lexington as the backdrop for our wedding day. In true Kentucky fashion, we buried a bottle of bourbon exactly one month before our wedding. This Southern tradition didn’t disappoint. It was sunny and 75 on April 13, 2024 with a clear blue sky! We wanted our wedding to reflect our love for the Bluegrass state, hence why we chose to get married at The Club at UK’s Spindletop Hall. We are both from eastern Kentucky towns, Maysville and Barbourville, and Lexington is located in the middle. Trey and I met each other in pharmacy school at the University of Kentucky and loved the idea of getting married at a venue affiliated with our alma mater. Most importantly, a dear family friend invited us to Spindletop Hall for dinner early on during our pharmacy school career. She was one of the first female pharmacists to graduate from the University of Kentucky and always dreamt of getting married at Spindletop Hall herself. It was truly an indescribable feeling to have our ceremony at a venue that holds such a special place in our hearts.
In addition to our sentimental venue, we incorporated various elements of our lives together throughout the duration of our wedding day. Our custom designed table numbers featured our rescue dogs, Claire and Rosie. Our family and friends know how much we love them and that they are the center of our lives in addition to our reception table centerpieces. To incorporate our pharmacy background, our welcome table featured a personalized prescription pad that allowed guests to share their prescriptions for a happy marriage. Trey and I thoroughly enjoyed reading the prescriptions after our honeymoon, appreciating each one from the serious marriage advice to the silly jokes. My bouquet and our other florals, coordinated by my bonus mom, consisted of pink roses. I wanted to honor the legacy of my older twin sisters that I never met and my parents have always made sure that their grave is decorated with pink roses. I had a personalized bouquet charm with their initials, which was such a special reminder of them throughout the day.
Our wedding ceremony took place in the Spindletop Hall library which was fitting considering our commitment to education. We chose not to have a bridal party because we wanted to incorporate our family and friends in the ceremony in a more meaningful way. Trey’s oldest brother and his longtime friend played live music while our other two brothers opened the double doors to the library for my walk down the aisle. One of Trey’s best friends was our officiant and two of our other close friends signed our marriage certificate as witnesses. Our springtime Lexington wedding came together beautifully and truly showcased our personalities. Our wedding day was exactly what we had imagined: classic, timeless, and elegant.
Bride’s Advice: The wedding should be all about you and your future spouse. It’s important to focus on the details and aspects of the day that mean the most to you as a couple!
