Kelly + Matt's Nicholasville Wedding

Matt and I hadn't spent much time in Kentucky, as I'm from Maryland and he's from Maine. We randomly stopped there on a cross country road trip and completely fell in love with Lexington so the wedding felt like an adventure for us. None of our guests had been there either - which made it even more fun.

The welcome party was at a super divey dive bar called Al's and the wedding was black tie so the contrast was really funky and exciting. We had a cigar roller and a whiskey tasting bar at the wedding which was very on brand for Lexington. We also had Joella's Hot Chicken cake jars for dessert. Our incredible venue also has a tradition of burying a bottle of bourbon on their property the night before the wedding for good luck from the rain. It ended up drizzling a bit at our wedding, but we didn't care at all and even dug up the bourbon at the wedding and passed the bottle around for every willing guest to take a sip. The pictures are so fun and I can't believe my dad even did it.

We danced our first dance to “When I Get My Hands On You” by Basement Tapes

Bride’s Advice: Don't feel pressured to do what everyone else wants you to do or what is expected. Make sure to include some humor into the event and not to take it too seriously. The funniest parts (sometimes when things went wrong) are the ones that I love to think about the most!
