Hannah + Todd's Morehead Wedding

From the Bride: Todd and I originally planned a destination wedding in Scotland, but COVID had other plans. We had to push our Scotland wedding date back to May 2022, and I just could not give up the winter wedding I had always dreamed of. After nearly a decade of dating, it was important to us to honor our original wedding date. One of the most fun elements of the wedding was finding ways to incorporate pieces of our Scotland wedding into our KY wedding. Todd wore tartan suit pants and we also recited traditional Scottish vows that we will recite again in May. A memory I will cherish forever is gifting my parents and godparents small plots of land in Scotland that made us “Lords” and “Ladies”.

We agreed up front to make our wedding day all about the things and people we love most. Our close family friend did all our décor, and we even spent a weekend in the woods chopping down evergreen trees on our family farm to create the ceremony backdrop. Todd and I exchanged letters to each other instead of giving each other a wedding gift and I wrote letters to my parents and godparents, too. I am so happy our photographer was able to capture these intimate moments and it felt like the perfect way to thank them for being such a huge part of not only our wedding day but our lives together. Unfortunately, my grandparents could not be there with me so I attached a necklace my pap had gifted my nana and it felt like I was carrying a piece of them throughout the day. We had our favorite Italian food for dinner, served our favorite wine, and had an after party at a local brewery where we’ve spent countless hours over the past couple years. There was never a part of our wedding day that didn’t feel authentic to who we are as a couple.

One of my favorite details was our guestbook and wedding favors. The watercolor artist who created our Scotland wedding invitations painted a large canvas with “iconic” locations in Morehead, which included both of our wedding venues, for our guests to sign and we also placed a copy of the print in envelopes at each seat. Our guests complimented how unique this was and it’s been great to see how so many of them have displayed the artwork in their homes or offices. We were originally hesitant to have a bigger wedding at home but we could not be more happy that we did. It was the best day filled with our closest family and friends and a day we will remember forever.

(Bride’s Advice) I wish someone had told me not to worry so much about all the little details. I was definitely stressed in the week leading up to the wedding worried I had forgotten some minor detail and in the end none of that really mattered. Your guests will truly never know or remember if forgot to put a candle somewhere you were hoping to, you miss a part of your vows or play the wrong song at the wrong time. Ultimately, all that matters is that you and your guests have a great time and don't spend so much time sweating the small stuff!
