Esther + Chandler's Lexington Wedding!
From the Bride: We got married on Lexington’s most beautiful October day. To start our planning, we read through about 25 years of Farmer’s Almanac data to find a dry day with warm (but not too warm!) temperatures, and it really paid off. As Aerospace Engineers, that’s kind of who we are. Our ceremony was under the iron gate and vibrant fall colors of Gratz Park, the location of both our proposal and countless picnic dates during college where we met nearly 7 years prior. It was so important to us that the day represent who we are as a couple. My brother performed the ceremony, filled with clever space puns as a nod to our mutual careers. Instead of the traditional Unity candle, we launched a water bottle rocket that we built and tested together. A vintage Bentley whisked us away from the ceremony to sunset pictures with the Lexington skyline and then off to our reception at Harper Hall. We couldn’t ask for a more beautiful setting. The exposed brick, modern chandeliers, and gorgeous sunroom were the perfect backdrop for the jazz and candles that filled the space. Our guests left us messages on the vintage rotary phone that we programmed ourselves to serve as an audio guestbook. We cut a bourbon vanilla cake, but also celebrated with derby pie bites, tiramisu shooters, chocolate covered strawberries, and mini blackberry cheesecakes. The bar was stocked with Ale8 and champagne for our signature Kentucky Mule and French 75, and our tables were numbered with space missions that held important meanings to us. On the back of each table card, we had a story explaining the history of each mission and why it was special to us. We’re old souls at heart and danced our first dance to “More” by Bobby Darin! But what really made the night so wonderful was celebrating with our family and friends.
Bride’s Advice: Never lose sight of what makes the day feel like you as a couple- there are so many wonderful traditions, but you will never regret choosing wedding details that are authentic to you and your partner.
