Blair + William's Spindletop Wedding
From the Bride: Will and I met in the summer of 2019 after matching on a dating app where the ladies have to message first. Will's profile portrayed him as a huge Cards fan and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to rub it in as I'm a Cats fan. So, needless to say, it all started with playful banter and a "Go Cats!" message. We ended up talking on the phone for the first time on July 31, 2019, got engaged on July 31, 2020, and our wedding was July 31, 2021! We are both super traditional and fell in love with how beautiful The Club at Spindletop Hall was. We knew it was the one and July 31 happened to be available, so it was fate! I'm the youngest daughter of 3 and was the last to get married so luckily, I already knew most of our vendors!
It has always been a huge goal of our relationship to keep Christ at the center of it and if anything, we truly wanted His love to shine through our day. I've always felt like some brides put all of their effort into the reception and sometimes forget to make the ceremony special. Personally, to me the ceremony is the most important part albeit shorter and the reception is the extra special gift afterwords. We wanted our ceremony to be personal so we worked with our pastor to choose our own set of vows + he shared with the crowd why we each wanted to be married to one another, do a unique unity ceremony, and take communion together. I knew I wanted a cross at the altar and that ended up being quite a challenge to find! We ended up finding one and our florist, Darcy made it stand out even more with beautiful flowers. I knew I wanted to be different than both of my sisters when it came to our unity ceremony. One sister did a sand ceremony (destination beach wedding) and the other did a traditional candle unity ceremony. I loved the idea of "A cord of three strands is not easily broken" cross meaning and found an amazing Etsy shop owner who could make just what I was looking for! Even though we had done a first look (which we were hesitant to do but ended up being our favorite part of the day) we both were emotional walking down the aisle and it was just as special.
We both come from large families and actually every member of our bridal party was related to us! It was important to us to make everyone feel loved and involved. (Side note: I learned how to roll with the punches as one of my bridesmaids & groomsmen had to back out of the wedding last minute...my cousin who is like another sister to me was pregnant and we were praying she'd be able to be in it...however, she ended up having her precious baby the day before the wedding so that knocked her and her husband out as a groomsmen but she got to FaceTime in during the ceremony :) ) ...I had a very distinct look I was going for and had a mood board to follow (as I'm sure most brides do nowadays) :). It was very difficult to keep my dress or any details from Will as we tell each other everything but our first look was extremely special and sweet and I'm glad we kept everything a secret! My new last name was going to be Flowers so I wanted to incorporate flowers everywhere that I could. That meant I wanted flowers all over the place, loved our Alpha Lit sign as "Mr. and Mrs. Flowers" with flowers surrounding it, my shoes had little flowers on them, my mom's dress had flowers as part of the design, and my bridesmaids wore flower earrings. I purchased new perfume for my wedding and the one I ended up getting had a flower as the top of the perfume bottle which made it even more perfect. My something borrowed, old, and blue happened to be my garter that my Granny wore in her wedding to my Pappaw and they've been married for over 64 years. My great grandmother actually made the garter and that's who I'm named after. Will and I both ended up having the same exact engraving on each other's wedding bands without even knowing what the other was putting. "Forever Yours". I love monograms (what Southern girl doesn't?!) and was able to DIY and put it on most of our wedding details. I incorporated our monogram on our invitations, seating chart, favors, cake, wedding ring box, and wedding welcome bags. I made the stickers for our honey jar favors which were given since we were "Meant to Bee" and met on Bumble + bees love flowers + we call each other honey ;). I couldn't of planned any of it without my amazing Mom, our wonderful wedding coordinator Amberly, and my sweet hubby, Will. I was really lucky and happy that my hubby wanted to be involved in most of the wedding planning - he helped in many ways! It was our favorite day and we both wish we could go back and relive it again. My flower girls which are our nieces keep asking me, "When are you getting married again because it was so much fun?!" Sorry little ladies, we'll have to relive our special day through our amazing photos, wedding film, and memories.
Will’s most memorable sight would be when Blair turned around for our first look OR the glow in her eyes during our first dance. Mine and Will’s most memorable taste from our wedding would have to be the only time I actually was able to taste our delicious wedding cake - when my husband smashed it in my face! Ha! We never talked about being nice or not but we both went with it and had a lot of fun. It tasted delicious and made a fun memory! Will’s most memorable touch from our wedding would be when Blair placed the ring on my finger. I was really excited to wear my ring. My most memorable smell was 100% our flowers. Obviously my new last name would be Flowers, plus those that know me know how OBSESSED I am with fresh flowers. I wanted them everywhere in the wedding and I love bright colors. Our florist, Darcy absolutely nailed my vision! She is so talented! Juneberry (my photographers) kept saying they smelled like citrus! I'll always remember the smell of my beautiful flowers. :) Our most memorable sound was hearing "Mr. and Mrs. Flowers" for the first time. That was a surreal moment and truly special. :)
