Kerrie + Dylan's Southern and Romantic Wedding
From the Bride: From the moment my girls and I woke up in a big hotel bed, cuddled up together, to the intimate first look, to the nonstop dance floor action, our wedding day was one for the books. We got married in the mountains of southeastern Kentucky, and there was 100% chance of afternoon thunderstorms. We kept checking the radar, minutes before the ceremony, and there were insane storms completely circling our venue. At the center of it all, we only got a little bit of the wind from the storm, which resulted in me throwing my veil to the wedding coordinator seconds before walking down the aisle.
As I had wished since I was a little girl, my mother walked me down the aisle. The ceremony was over in the blink of an eye, and my husband and I ran down the aisle together as Mr & Mrs! He stopped me midway, leaned me over, and gave me a big ole smooch for the camera. There was no hiding the excitement and love we shared that day. We cooled down with delicious fruit kabobs, took some bride and groom shots, and entered the romantic, candle-lit, flowers-absolutely-everywhere barn that resembled a southern Cinderella story. We made it through our friends and family, dancing along the way to “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet,” and shared our first dance to Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s “The Rest of Our Life.” After that, we devoured the sweetest sweet tea and mouth-watering pulled pork. Oh, we were so very hungry.
I remember sitting at the front of the barn in our middle-of-attention seats, looking out into the barn, and truly soaking it all in. I said to myself, “It was worth it. Every dollar, every minute, every breakdown through planning...this was worth it.” Our closest friends and family were laughing, eating, dancing like no one was watching, and it was all for us, celebrating our love and new beginning. From the barn in the mountains, to the boy’s cowboy boots, the sweet tea and BBQ dinner, and Tim McGraw first dance song, we truly had a southern, Kentucky wedding.
We both share the same favorite moment of the day, which was our first look. We went back and forth on whether or not we wanted to have a first look, but ultimately decided that it was an intimate moment we wanted to share with just ourselves. I held back the tears as I walked up to my groom, who had his back turned, waiting on my arrival. With every step I took, I grew more and more overcome with the love I held in my heart for this man, and in that moment, I couldn’t believe I was truly getting to marry the man of my dreams- the kind of guy I had prayed for since I was a little girl. I slowly walked up to him, gently grabbed his arm, and he turned around. Almost instantly, the nerves completely vanished. His watery eyes made mine worse, and being the funny-guy that he is, he immediately said, “Woohoo, come to papa!” Haha! He always knows how to make me laugh. We hugged and kissed, and walked over to the oversized, wooden swing hanging from an old oak tree. This was hands-down our favorite part of the day. We are forever thankful we chose to have a first look, because it gave us the intimate moment we wanted while allowing our nerves to completely disappear before saying our vows.
