Hannah + Luke's Elegant Wedding
From the Bride: Some things that made our wedding stand out were the personal touches we added. My grandmother had cancer. To hide her scars, she used to sew in fabric pieces in her shirt. She has since passed away. I was able to wrap my flowers in a piece of that fabric she had used. In addition to the fabric, I had a bouquet charm made that pictured my grandmother and my grandfather, who passed away in February before our wedding. I had my uncles’ name, that was on his FFA jacket, sewn into the left side of my dress (the side of my heart). The rest of our family members that had passed, were displayed at the entrance of our wedding, to represent their presence on our big day. Lastly, the gifts given to Luke were personalized. I chose fabric and had a tie made for Luke complete with my name stitched in my handwriting in the back. I also gave him an engraved Bible with highlighted scriptures and a watch that had been engraved.
When planning my wedding, my mom was a huge help and brought us even closer than we already were. We wanted to re-use certain things as much as possible from our wedding. We created a kid’s table with an old house door and pillows, which are now throughout our home. We had an alternative guestbook that our guest signed, and now is the centerpiece in our living room. We also took all the photo frames that pictured our past family members to decorate our home with our wedding photos. We dried all the flowers to save as a keepsake.
It was really important to us to incorporate our family and friends since they played such a crucial role in Luke and I coming back together again, and ultimately getting married. We had our best friends stand by both of our sides that day. This included a bridesmaid, Reagan, who encouraged me to pursue Luke, and a groomsman, Riley, who threw the party we came back together at. Greg, Luke’s dad, became ordained and married us. Luke’s family cooked half of the meal and the wedding cake, and close family friends fixed the other half of the meal. My mom works in the school system, where they have a student run café. One of her co-workers and students made all the donuts for the donut bar. The reception alowwed all the people we loved to come together, to eat, dance, and celebrate. The dance floor was filled with loved ones of all ages – young and old.
My favorite part, besides marrying Luke, was all of our loved ones gathering in one place and reflecting on each individual’s role in our lives.
Luke says, “My favorite part, was getting to see my beautiful bride at the first reveal and just getting to marry her.”
