Ayrika and Derrick's Cozy Winter Wedding
From the Bride: Many people dread the winter months with shorter days, colder temperatures, and unpredictable weather. Despite the popular opinion, winter is actually one of my favorite seasons. Whether it’s cuddling up with a blanket by the fireplace, the cold air, holiday gatherings with family, or my favorite, snow, I love the intimate feeling the season gives me. Back in the spring I had told my mom that I really wanted a winter wedding when Derrick did propose. Funny enough, his last name also happened to be Winters (a coincidence I promise).
As the months went by without a proposal, my mom and I half-heartedly joked that a winter wedding would not be happening this year. On July 22nd, 2019 I answered the easiest question when Derrick (finally) proposed. This left only about five short months to plan a winter wedding. Of course when I told my mom I really wanted to have a wedding this year she already knew we were going to make it happen. Fast-forward about a month, and all the big decisions were made. I was working part-time, and also going to school full-time getting my Family Nurse Practitioner. I won’t lie, planning a wedding this quickly along with all of life’s responsibilities was challenging. Once school started back for the fall, I really left my mom up to finishing the details only showing her a few pictures of my ideas for the big day. With some help, she came through bigger and better and I could have ever imagined.
Looking back on December 7th, 2019, I remember this day being nothing short of perfect.
It was complete with all of my favorite things of the season - my grandmother’s famous hot chocolate recipe, Christmas trees, fresh-cut greenery, lights, and a cozy fireplace to snuggle up next to. Most importantly, the day was filled with laughter and celebration with our family and friends, many that had traveled hours to share our special day with us. As Derrick and I left in our “Let it Snow” sendoff, I won’t ever forget the happiness I felt leaving that night as Mrs. Winters.
