Shelby + Jacob's Frankfort Wedding

Jacob and I met in optometry school so eyes have always been a big part of our relationship. We wanted to have a few subtle nods to our optometry ties by having a neon sign that read “ I only have eyes for you” and naming one of our signature drinks “The Eye Do”. We also had our mentor and retina surgeon, Dr. Angelia Thompson, officiate our wedding.

We had the Horsebox at our wedding which was such a fun, interactive way for our guests to enjoy drinks! They also helped us include our sweet pup, Juniper (Juni), in our big day by serving a signature drink, “The Junebug”, and serving every drink in cups with a special message from Juni.

Jacob is from Tennessee and I was born and raised in Lexington. We got engaged at the Kentucky Theatre, we had a March Madness UK bachelor/bachelorette party (yes, it was still fun even with the basketball outcome), and now we live in Lexington. With all the Kentucky elements, we wanted to add a few Tennessee touches by having Moonshine Mountain Cookie Co (owned by Jacob’s cousins) supply the wedding favors and surprising Jacob’s family by playing “Rocky Top” at our reception. We couldn’t let the night end with people questioning our loyalty, so “Rocky Top” was quickly interrupted with the UK hype song and blue glow sticks.

We danced our first dance to “All This Time” by OneRepublic.

Bride’s Advice: Get a physical planner you can write appointments and deadlines in! Electronic calendars are great, but it can be very overwhelming and seeing it all written out in one place will make your life so much easier!
