Schyler + Luke's Russell Springs Wedding
From the Bride: Luke and Schyler always planned for a small, family centered wedding with their closest family and friends. Both being from rural Kentucky and working in healthcare their love grew for one another when establishing a mentor program for students interested in attending medical school. Our wedding was the first in the Old Irvin Schoolhouse, a historic schoolhouse turned wedding venue by four sisters in honor of their mother. The property sits on a small homestead turned Airbnb (Gran’s Place), quietly tucked just off the highway, right in the heart of Russell Springs. Luke and Schyler fell in love with The Old Irvin Schoolhouse the moment they saw it was being rescued and renovated and watched as it was brought back to life. My most memorable sound that day was the ringing of the bell outside of the schoolhouse. We started the tradition that everyone that gets married there will ring the bell.
The venue was very cozy and intimate and there was an added Christmas spirit with all of the fresh greenery, candy canes and mistletoe. Two special moments to me are of my mom (Lisa) who loves Christmas and her best friend (Judy) decorating the venue with me and of my Dad (David often called Bluegill) driving me up on a golf cart to walk me down the aisle, I grew up playing golf with my dad and went on to play collegiate golf so it was a very special moment for us. I wanted to add red bows outside of the venue in honor of my Pappaw, who recently passed away because red was his favorite color.
Schyler still remembers her grandmother or her mammaw, as she refers to her. They shared a sweet moment when she took Schyler’s hand the first time seeing her and Schyler remembers that so vividly. The photographer actually captured the photo.
My most memorable sight was when we exited the venue after being pronounced husband and wife, we hopped on a covered golf cart to shield us from the rain and took a lap around the property. That moment was a chance for us to breathe, hold each other’s hand and say we did it without having anyone else around.
We had a coffee bar because coffee has always been our thing. We always say coffee & soft kisses. We danced our first dance to “Joy of My Life” by Chris Stapleton. “Luke always sings it to me,” Schyler says.
