Olivia + Grant's Ashford Acres Wedding

From the Bride: When you get to the end of your journey and look back to take a survey on where life has taken you, all the highs and lows, the twist and turns, the laughter and the tears, you can only hope to have certain days that highlight your greatest moments. For me, our wedding day was one of those days - rarely do days that have been so heavily anticipated live up to your expectations, even rarer for the day to exceed them. Ashford Acres and their staff played an incredible role in making our wedding day so special and personal.

We initially chose Ashford Acres as our venue because we were swept away by it’s romantic southern charm. It’s nestled between horse farms with rolling hills as far as the eye can see. Grant and I were both born and raised in Kentucky so it was important for our venue to showcase what we love about the place we call home.

Our wedding was fairly traditional however there were a few things that made our day stand out. For starters, a vintage car was my “something blue.” I knew that flowers were an important element for me for wedding day. My favorite flower is a peony so our arrangements all had bright coral peonies included. The smell of the fresh flower arrangements was a highlight for me. My husband’s great grandmother was unable to make it to our wedding but it was important for us to include her in our day, so we arranged a FaceTime call with her immediately after our ceremony ended. The sound of her exclamations and the emotion in Grant’s voice as he announced “We’re married!” were the sweetest sounds that day.

My sister’s Maid of Honor speech was certainly unique as she sang her speech to the tune of Pocket Full of Sunshine with my mom singing back up. She had the entire crowd laughing hysterically as she informed my husband via the power of song that he had not just gained me as a wife that day, but that for better or worse he had also gained my whole family. We of course couldn’t go through such an important day without our sweet Bernedoodle puppy, River, so he stopped by to say hello before the ceremony. He even had a bowtie to match his dad’s tie!

The most memorable sight was the gorgeous golden sunset that my husband and I watched together during our reception. After dinner had concluded we took a few minutes to ourselves, just the two of us, to admire the sunset setting over the horizon. This was such an intimate moment for us as we got to spend a few minutes reflecting on our ceremony and the beautiful day the Lord provided for us.

While these are just a few examples of what made our day unique, spending the day with our closet friends and family was the highlight of the event.
