Lexie + Marc's Refinery Wedding
From the Bride: There were many elements that made our wedding special, but mostly, it was just about us. It wasn't about pleasing people or caring what people thought. It was unapologetically us; dog and bourbon lovers through and through. Starting with the bourbon barrelhead guestbook to the mini bourbon barrel for our unity ceremony. The sweet smell of bourbon filled my nose as Marc and I opened our bottles and poured them into the mini barrel for our unity ceremony. It was so special to have our sweet rescue dog Willow as our flower girl. I'll never forget holding my bouquet and squeezing the little picture charm of my family dog who passed away a week after our engagement. She was supposed to be in our wedding. The signature cocktails were another nod to detail. Not one detail was overlooked when it came to putting our touch on it.
We wanted our wedding to be about love, so we wrote our vows and read them in front of our closest friends and family. If you know Marc, you know this was quite the feat, yet he presented the most beautiful words so eloquently. We wanted a personal touch on the day, so we handmade lots of things like the entrance sign, the barrel head guestbook, the table numbers and my personal favorite... the homemade decorated sugar cookies with our initials on them for our guests to take home. Along with that, we wanted to have a subtle theme throughout the day, so we went with hexagons. They could be seen on the invitations, the ceremony arbor, the customized bar fronts, the table numbers, the ring box, the cookies, our cake topper and the signs hanging on our chairs.
I can still hear Marc’s sweet nervous laugh when I look back at pictures bringing back the memory of hearing the instrumental version of "Iris" playing as I turned the corner to walk down the aisle. I remember looking into the crowd during the ceremony. I don't remember every specific face I saw, but I remember a group of people who were there because they truly love and support us.
We wanted our day to be fun. We did that by not only making our grand entrance to Marc's favorite song "London Bridge" and dancing the night away, but providing fun twists for guests like watching a live painter paint our first dance scene. Or if you're Marc, your example of fun is going behind my back to plan some fun for the guys who went on his Bachelor party. Marc's bachelor party group went to a Savannah Bananas baseball game, and on our wedding day Marc arranged to have bananas put on the plates of everyone who went to the game. It was absolutely hilarious! Lastly, we wanted our wedding to have some secrets that no one noticed or knew about. We did that by doing a first touch by ourselves before the ceremony, stepping out of dinner for a couple’s shoot and using my parent’s cake knife and server from 1992.
