Molly + Will's Louisville Wedding
From the Bride: Our wedding was so beautiful and so stress-free, thanks to the planning and preparation done by our wonderful wedding coordinator, Jessica, and by my mom. We loved Caldwell Chapel and the Olmsted, and the classic Louisville vibe of having our wedding at those venues. The thing that will always stand out most to us is the personal connections we had with the wedding party and with so many details of the day. Our bridesmaids and groomsmen made everything so much fun (especially the limo ride), and it is so special to spend the best day of your life with people you have known for so long, many since early childhood. Will’s twin brother was his best man (confusing several guests), his sister was a bridesmaid, and his uncle and sister-in-law were readers at the ceremony. The judge who officiated is a dear family friend who has known me my entire life. I was the flower girl at her wedding. Her daughter was a reader at our wedding, and her granddaughter was our flower girl. Our wedding ceremony was part traditional vows, and part sweet, funny stories about Will and me and our families. It was perfect.
Our cake and our donut tower were made by Plehn’s Bakery, where I ate chocolate donuts on Saturday mornings during most of my childhood. So delicious! The prayer I said before dinner was one learned from a daycare teacher long ago. My family and I loved it so much we have used it ever since. Will and I created playlists for the church and for cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing at the reception. Every piece of music was special to us, and now hearing those songs reminds us of moments at our wedding. We had a wonderful string trio at the church, and we loved their renditions of songs by the Beatles and Bob Marley, as well as classical ones. We danced our first dance to “You Never Need Nobody” by The Lone Bellow. We had a great DJ, and everyone had so much fun dancing at the reception. One of my bridesmaids, a California DJ, made it even more fun when she stepped in for a DJ set.
One of the absolute best parts of our wedding was the First Look. We had initially planned to see each other for the first time at the altar but changed our minds. We are so glad we did! The First Look gave us a quiet, private time to talk and read the letters we had written to each other. It was just the two of us, and it was a perfect, beautiful, and emotional time that we will never forget.
Bride’s Advice: We wish someone had told us to be sure to make a speech during our reception. I said the grace for dinner, and members of our wedding party and family made wonderful speeches. Will and I made comments in response, but we did not make an actual speech. In retrospect, we wish we had made our own speech so we could have told everyone how much we loved having them there and how much the day meant to us.
