Mackenzie + Justin's Burkesville Wedding

From the Bride: After being a bridesmaid 12 times (my friends always joked I was the girl from 27 dresses) it was surreal that it was my turn to get married. October 24th, 2020 I got to marry my highschool sweetheart. We had long awaited this day and I couldn’t believe it finally came! Our fall wedding was the perfect Kentucky boho fairytale from the cool air, the picturesque fall landscape, and being surrounded by the people that rooted for us for so long. We got married exactly one day short of a year from our engagement date at Bodock Farms where we fell in love with the rolling hills surrounding the private farm and the small white open air chapel standing all to itself, like something out of a movie. After being in 12 weddings I had a few things I absolutely wanted for our day, the Juneberry girls had to be there to capture it for us, everyone needed to be dancing, and TACOS!

After lots of discussions with Justin, long phone calls with my mom, and chats with my best girlfriends, I watched my vision come to life. I found my dream dress at Relix Bridal where their in house seamstress custom made my sleeves with lace purchased from the dress designer. My mom and I took part in the design process, even helping to choose where to place the appliques. After finding my dream dress I carefully chose an array of textures and fall tones for my bridesmaids and Justin chose classic suits for himself and his groomsmen. Pampas grass was harvested by my mom from my grandparent’s front yard, neighbors, and even complete strangers and was used to line the aisle and decorate the reception barn. I thrifted vintage rattan peacock chairs that were used to make a statement at our sweetheart table, my late great grandmother’s gold mirror was placed in the corner of the barn with painted lyrics from our soon-to-be first dance song, and a pretzel bar including a peg wall made by Justin himself, are just a few personal touches that made our day unique to us. Since most date nights you can find us at our local Mexican Restaurant a taco bar catered by our favorite Mexican restaurant in our hometown of Somerset was a no brainer. Our taco bar wouldn’t be complete without our signature drink, margaritas, of course! That first bite of chips and guac when we sat down at our reception couldn’t have been better! it came to our first dance, I couldn’t imagine it any other way than having my younger brother, Hunter, sing and play for us. He stunned the room with his rendition of “All Your’n” by Tyler Childers.

Some of my favorite memories from the day include creating an epic champagne shower with my bridesmaids, seeing Justin’s face during our first look. This moment was so sweet and special to me, it felt like time froze. I am so glad we opted for a first look, it allowed us to really soak in the moment together on our special day. Getting to hold hands and talk with each other before the ceremony really helped us relax before the trip down the aisle, and exchanging gifts with him. The smell of the crisp fall air after the rain had let up stands out to me. It had started raining right before it was time for the bridal party to walk to the chapel, which was very comical and fitting because it also began raining right before Justin proposed just short of a year before our wedding day. Another favorite moment was a group hug with my three younger siblings right as we were lining up for the ceremony, feeling the hands of my bridesmaids touching me as one of my best friends spoke one of the sweetest prayers over me just before I went down the aisle and linking arms with my dad as we were waiting for the doors to open for our special walk down the aisle. During our ceremony hearing Justin’s personal vows was one of the sweetest moments of my life. He had me laughing one second and crying the next, those moments are some I will cherish forever. I highly recommend writing personal vows, they are just so meaningful.

It was truly magical to look around and see all the people from so many different parts of our life there to celebrate our marriage. I wish we could dance the night away with all of our favorite people over and over again!
