Katelyn + Evan's Louisville Wedding
From the Bride: Probably the most special aspect of our wedding day was the date itself. May 14th fell into our laps when we were touring our venue, Whitehall House & Gardens. We instantly fell in love with the house and grounds, and although we had scheduled tours at other venues, we knew immediately Whitehall was our perfect wedding venue. We knew we wanted a Spring wedding, and when we booked, May 14th was the only Saturday left in May. We found out shortly after we booked our date that May 14th was Evan’s late grandparents’ wedding anniversary. They had been married 50+ years before they passed. We knew May 14th would be special for us, but realizing that we would share an anniversary with such an incredible couple was monumental for us.
As for the wedding day itself, there were more than a few highlight points. First off - it rained almost the entire day. A torrential downpour at times! We had planned for the ceremony to be outside in the gardens, but that quickly changed. We ended up moving the ceremony underneath our reception tent, and seeing how all of our wedding party and vendors came together to help make this adjustment possible was truly heartwarming. The ceremony was incredibly beautiful and the light rain on the tent made it so much more romantic. The rain even cooled off the temperature and heat of the day, making everyone much more comfortable outside and ready to boogie all night!
The last things I will say about our wedding day are that we had a late night pretzel bar that included delicious pretzel knots/bites along with all the dips you could imagine (jalapeño queso, beer cheese, spicy mustard, royal icing, and chocolate sauce)!! Also, my maid of honor (Abby) gave a Grammy worthy performance during her toast when she remixed The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song into an original rendition that incorporated some of the most important aspects of mine and Evan’s love story. It was completely a surprise to us and truly left everyone speechless in the best of ways! We danced our first dance to '“Forever Like That” by Ben Rector. Finally, we lost one of our good friends, and one of Evan’s groomsman, tragically and suddenly about 1 month prior to our wedding day. While the day was sadly different without him, we chose to celebrate and honor his life in many ways throughout the ceremony and reception through little details like Evan’s custom Boutonnière pin, our signature drink, remembrance photos, and ceremony programs.
Bride’s Advice: Do not stress about all of the little details of the day! Things will all work out they way they are supposed to and are perfect in the end. It’s the changes and mistakes that end up being what make your day special and unique, so enjoy every second!
