Ivy + TJ's Lexington Wedding
From the Bride: To us family is everything. We were both so fortunate to have grown up with such loving, supportive families. We each come from a long history of lifelong marriages, who have been such amazing role models for our relationship.
To begin, while getting ready for the big day, I had my mother’s wedding dress transformed into the perfect bridal robe. I loved being able to wear my mother’s wedding dress on my wedding day. It was a sweet reminder of how my parents love has grown over the years and how it has made me the person I am today. My parent's celebrated their 33rd marriage anniversary in 2023.
Though my grandparents were unable to come to the wedding, I was able to find unique elements to keep my grandparents with me on the wedding day. I wrapped Pap's old handkerchief around the bridal bouquet, as well as wore the pearls my Nana had worn on her wedding day, keeping them with me on the moment we shared our "I do's." My maternal grandparents had been married for 65 years.
Most importantly, TJ’s grandfather had been specially ordained to be the officiant for their wedding day. TJ says, "I have always admired my Poppy. He has such an amazing character and has so much wisdom. He and my Grammy have always been our main role models for Ivy and I's relationship. We thought, who else better to marry us than my own Poppy, who has watched our love grow over the years." Larry Atwell, or Poppy, started by sharing our original love story from their different point of views, earning both laughs and "awww's." We then each shared our written vows for each other, making the ceremony even more special. Lastly, Poppy shared some loving advice from his 55 years of marriage.
