Amanda + Andrew's Louisville Wedding
From the Bride: Andrew and I Iove historic hotels, so it didn’t take us long to settle on the Seelbach Hotel. (Fun facts: We got married on our 10-year dating anniversary and we toured the hotel the same day we toured our current home). My husband and I knew that we had to include the Rathskeller - the only surviving Rookwood pottery room in the world - in our wedding day. The only problem - we couldn’t comfortably fit our guests in there for dinner. So we decided to have our wedding across three rooms starting in the grand ballroom, then ending the night with the reception in the Rathskeller.
After seeing a friend’s grandma in their wedding as their flower girl, I immediately called my Nana after and told her it’d be our secret for now, but when I got married, I wanted her to be my flower girl. So for the first time, my 88-year-old grandmother, was in a wedding.
Our wedding cake (alternating layers of wedding white and red velvet filled and frosted with Madagascar vanilla buttercream) was something I’ve dreamed about since I was a young girl. I grew up around my Aunt Lida, who owned a wedding cake business, and got to see the beautiful creations she made for brides all over the state. Not only did she come out of retirement to sketch, bake and hand roll (edible) pearls for our cake, but she also acted as our wedding planner for a year-and-a-half of planning. I truly cannot thank her enough for this work of art.
Bride’s Advice: Go to a sample sale. Make a day or a trip out of it with your mom. I was able to go to Kleinfeld Bridal and get my dream dress at a fraction of the cost. 100% worth it.
