Mariah + Alex's Kentucky Castle Wedding
From the Bride: Our wedding had a very Kentucky native focus. For each place setting we placed a horse shoe from Lexington's Keeneland Racetrack as a sign for good luck to each of the special people who celebrated with us. These horseshoes were actually worn by thoroughbreds training at the track ahead of the 2023 fall meet. The father of the bride scrubbed each one enough to prove it. Our guests hailed from the West Coast to the East Coast and everywhere in between so we wanted to show them what Kentucky was all about.
We had a local band, Encore of Lexington and local emcee, Jay Alexander of 107.9 The Beat. Our cocktails were Kentucky spins on old classics. For her, a French 75 paired with fresh Castle Farms lavender. For him, a Honey Old Fashioned with Rittenhouse Rye and house made vanilla spiked honey, expertly crafted by local mixologist, Jordan Ryan.
Our floral arrangements for the cocktail hour were naturally housed in repurposed bourbon bottles.
We feel that our wedding was the perfect mix of fairy-tale meets Kentucky proper. The whole event was shot by Jon Morton, our photographer, while not local, holds a special place in our heart because he shot the bride's senior photos ten years prior.
We feel that our wedding exemplified a slice of Kentucky life.
Bride’s Advice: Focus on what is really important to you and to leave some of the details to be what they are. You won't be able to do everything and what doesn't turn out exactly right won't even be noticed.
