Madison + Joe's Lexington Wedding
From the Bride: During the unique season of COVID, Joe and I not only had to postpone our wedding from May 9th to July 17, we had to reduce the guest list to 50%. This heartbreaking decision ended up creating a very intimate wedding. We were able to talk to every single one of our guests.
Joe and I hand picked with the help of our wedding planner each and every Vendor. We truly used people who we made connections with on a personal and intimate level. We wanted our wedding to truly represent us as a couple. One of the things Joe and I connected over early in our relationship was our love for food and trying out new menus. Joe and I love southern food and one of our favorite meals is chicken and waffles. Selma’s brought this southern meal to life at our wedding. Guests from our wedding still talk about how our wedding food was not only delicious, but so unique. The chicken and waffles also presented beautifully.
I’m known as a “donut queen” in my friend group and at work so we brought my love for desserts/donuts to life with a beautiful donut wall as the background behind our floral wedding cake. The grooms cake were two tiered chocolate chip cookie cakes for my husband who prefers cookie cakes over regular cake. My husband was in the Marines and we chose to cut our floral wedding cake with his ceremonial NCO sword.
My favorite part of our wedding was how well-timed everything was. I’m not talking about the timing of walking down the aisle, but how the stars truly aligned for our day. An hour before our ceremony the biggest rain storm rolled in, but we remained faithful that the storm would move out and we would be able to have our outdoor ceremony. 30 minutes before our ceremony, the storm finished, the sun came out, and the temperatures cooled down by 11 degrees on a hot July day. The picture of us kissing under the umbrella are breathtaking and the clouds truly look beautiful. My three year old niece, our flower girl, even had fun twirling in her gown under the umbrella. The rain created a unique environment for photos with my husband, our flower girl, and entire wedding party. It didn’t matter it had rained because we were finally getting married that day.
With covid being a huge obstacle in our wedding season, July was truly a great month with lower case numbers. It was perfect timing for our already postponed day. My Groom’s favorite part of our wedding was our first dance to All Your’n by Tyler Childers. Childers is one of Joe’s favorite artists and this song was one we had enjoyed singing so many times. Joe was nervous to dip me at the end of our dance in my big princess gown, but he did it perfectly. Our night ended magically with golden hour pictures on the dock at Talon over the pond at sunset. Everyone was nervous about us getting out on the dock in my dress and his suit, but one thing I love about us is that we are both always down for an adventure. Those moments on the dock at sunset of just us together truly felt magical and like a fairy tale.
