Shelby and Grant's Engagement & Timeless Wedding
From the Bride: Throughout our whole relationship, nothing has really been traditional, so we didn't want the traditional wedding ceremony. While in college I worked at a hole in the wall bar in Bowling Green, KY where everyone is more like family rather than a customer. So, Grant and I asked one of the guys that we had gotten close with to be our officiant. We wrote our entire ceremony together and when I gave Frank what we had written for our ceremony, he asked if he could ad lib a few things. I told him he could ad lib whatever he needed to, just as long as it wasn't what we had for our vows. Little did I know, mine and Frank's definition of "a few things" were completely different. Frank ended up winging our entire ceremony EXCEPT our vows, which is exactly what I told him he could do and has ended up being one of our favorite memories from our wedding day.
One of my favorite memories from that day was our first look. The photographers told us it was time for our first look but when Grant turned around I wasn't wearing my dress but instead, I was wearing a banana costume. I thought it was hilarious but Grant did not, when he first turned around and saw me in my banana suit all he could do was point to the door his exact words were "no, take that off and go put your damn dress on!" He later admitted that it was funny and he should have known I was going to pull something like that.
One of Grant’s favorite memories was a balloon release. Instead of doing a unity candle we decided to do a balloon release together, the balloons represented family members from both sides that had passed away and weren't able to be a part of our special day. One of Grant’s papaw's had passed away two weeks before our wedding he tried so hard to make it to the wedding but he just didn't make it. We had 5 white balloons tied to chairs by the door with their pictures on them, we let them out in front of the vineyard while my brother played the song "Broken Halos" by Chris Stapleton on the guitar.
