Summer + Kirk's Owensboro Wedding
From the Bride + Groom: We went for a classic antique/vintage feel for our wedding that incorporated some of our favorite things. We started the day getting ready at the president's home on campus which was full of beautiful antique furniture. It provided a great place to take our getting ready pictures and a sweet outdoor area where we could share our first look. You'll find vintage details in the bride/groom's attire through her sleeved gown and vintage white flats and through his subtle plaid tux and ivory bow tie. We kept the colors of the florals/bridal party all neutrals and the mismatched sage green bridesmaid dresses gave the neutrals some depth.
My most memorable touch was the double hug I got from my two dads during our first look. I went against tradition and had both walk me down the aisle, which is something I'll always be glad I did because they're both equally important in my life.
The reception decor is where you really found the antique flair we both love - through the antique brass candlestick-centered centerpieces, the vinyl record guest book and the pieces of vintage luggage and antique picture frames at the memory table. We did all of the decorating (and thrift shopping!) ourselves with help from our families and friends, which was an awesome rehearsal day memory for us. Our most memorable sight was the lighting at the reception. We had giant marquee letters that said The Aldridges (and sweet little string lights and flickering candles on the tables) that really set the mood and the marquee letters made for an awesome background for first dance pictures.
We are a couple who cherishes our Sunday morning breakfast ritual - so much so that that's where the proposal took place. To tie that into the day, we served breakfast for dinner (yummy shrimp & grits, quiche, chicken & waffles, etc.) and had a "coffee hour" in place of the traditional cocktail hour, where guests enjoyed special coffees and made from scratch pastries. Kirk says, “my most memorable taste was, hands-down the hashbrown casserole. You can't have a southern breakfast without potatoes!"
I still remember the sound of laughter when my MOH cracked a joke about my husband's age. I'm 3 years older than him and she was going to make sure the crowd knew. They loved it!
We are also a non-drinking couple, and we wanted to keep our wedding that way too. We served coffee & hot chocolate for the toasts and had a S'mores late night stack rather than your more common bar snacks late in the night.
