Sarah + Cameron's Lexington Wedding
From the Bride: Cameron and I got engaged in front of our loved ones during a graduation party I had thrown for him. We continued that theme and did our first look at Keeneland surrounded by our wedding party and parents. We then had our ceremony at Southland Christian Church. He had planned to change into a white dinner jacket before our reception and I surprised him by changing into a second gown. I got to choose my gowns in the presence of the Watters designers who created them and had a wonderful time discussing accessorizing with them.
We were able to transform a blank industrial space into an inviting safe haven from an impending winter storm. Flowers, trees, as well as a greenery installation above the dance floor were used at various heights to add dimension to the space. Multiple fabrics were utilized including, my favorite, a gorgeous dark teal velvet. The addition of copper pieces gave a warmness to the place settings while wooden laser cut names personalized them. Candles in glass globes positioned at different heights within the trees and suspended florals gave an illusion the lights were floating. This twinkle, combined with lights strung from the ceiling, created an intimate ambiance that seemed to extend beyond the Clerestory as it reflected off of the wall of windows.
A custom acrylic sign for the specialty cocktails named for our medical specialties, fleece blankets for guests with bourbon glass embroidery (graphic design by our sister-in-law and embroidered by Cameron’s mom), and a barrel head guest book were details that enabled us to personalize parts of our wedding celebration. We were fortunate to work with an extremely talented team of vendors who took time to learn what was important to us and executed their roles with professionalism and creativity. Each element of our day and design was intentional, giving frequent nods to our Kentucky roots and the things we have in common. The end result was a merging of southern hospitality and formality in a moment when the world was finally ready to celebrate together again.
Bride’s Advice: Plan some moments throughout your wedding day to have together, just the two of you.
