Kenzie + Cameron's Refinery Wedding
From the Bride: From coffee in the morning to a cheerful sparkler send-off to an unplanned after party in a hotel conference room, I couldn’t have dreamt of a better wedding day despite being one of the hottest days of the year. My bridesmaids and I started the day in the cutest Airbnb with my favorite Sunergos coffee and Chick-fil-A chicken mini’s, of course. (I suppose I was not that bride that was too nervous and antsy to eat on the day of—a girl’s gotta eat.)
After getting ready, we headed to Falls of the Ohio Park for our first look and bridal party photos. I loved that Cameron and I got there earlier than the bridal party for a more intimate first look. We had time to sit down and read letters we had written to each other and really take each other in. After bridal party photos, we went to The Refinery to finish up photos and gather ourselves prior to the ceremony. One of my favorite moments of the day was getting to walk into the reception area and see everything set up before family and friends arrived. My jaw dropped as I walked in and got to see firsthand all the hard work of planning over the last year come together.
My favorite decor items was the neon sign and arch boards. The neon sign is something we will be able to use forever in our home even if Cameron claims it’s for his “man cave.” The arch boards are special because one of our groomsmen went to Lowe’s with us, helped us pick out the wood, measured and cut them for us, Kenzie chose the colors and painted them herself. My favorite flower in my bouquet was ranunculus. They are so whimsical, delicate, and intricate.
We had a courtyard wedding ceremony followed by an air-conditioned reception, (thankfully.) Cameron and I had a traditional first dance to “You’re Still the One” by Teddy Swims (Shania Twain Cover). However, my dad and I planned a choreographed dance to “U Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer. I have to admit my dad practiced way more than I did but we still had a laugh and it’s something I’ll never forget. Our wedding day was also Cameron’s parents wedding anniversary. We subtly figured out their first dance song prior to our wedding day and asked our DJ to call his parents to the dance floor for a surprise, special dance with us. I love that we will always share an anniversary with them.
Afterwards, we took a few minutes to eat dinner. I’ll never get over the overwhelming emotion of sitting down for the first time all day and having a view of all of our favorite people gathered in the same place. Our signature drinks were Faehr’s Fashion (a traditional old fashion with a twist on our last name) and Remi’s ‘Rita (a lime margarita with our dog’s name incorporated.)
We even got the chance to step out of the reception and take sunset photos. I loved having a quiet, relaxed moment with my new husband before getting the party started. We had a three tier wedding cake with the flavors being cookie butter (our fave), red velvet, and vanilla. We still get compliments on the flavors to this day! For the rest of the night, we crowd surfed and danced the night away.
Bride’s Advice: Be PRESENT during the planning process. Soak it up; it can be stressful but don’t wish it away. Coming from the most indecisive person I know, create a vision and stick with it. It’s YOUR day and no one else’s so don’t compare to others! Every wedding is unique!
