Colleen + Andrew's Louisville Olmsted Wedding
From the Bride: When we began planning our wedding, we knew that we wanted to throw a huge party (especially following Covid lockdown and having to postpone from 2020), and incorporate our favorite aspects of Kentucky into the day.
Our first look was at Bellarmine University, where we met, and involved digging up a bottle of bourbon, as an old tradition to bring good weather on your wedding day. Well the weather was perfect, so I’d say this worked!
We had a traditional Catholic ceremony that was timeless and beautiful. One of the most memorable sights was during the wedding ceremony - looking out and seeing all our family and friends in one space was the coolest moment and sight to see! All of the hugs from our parents and bridal party immediately following the ceremony made us feel so loved.
We were then taken to the reception on The Louisville Trolley, where we got the party started with our wedding party! With more than half of our guests being from out of town, we wanted to treat everyone to some of what Kentucky has to offer! At cocktail hour, people were greeted with trays of mint juleps and lilies, and shown to a bourbon tasting bar, featuring our favorite bourbons. As we arrived at the reception the smell of the mint and bourbon was heavenly! Appetizers included Kentucky Hot Browns, and a dessert bar full of bourbon balls and derby-themed chocolates. Cocktail tables were decorated with pictures of us at past Derbies and Oaks. I loved everything our florist did to transform the already gorgeous venue into a fairytale garden, with hanging flower grids, greenery, and various heights and styles of candles and floral arrangements throughout the room.
We loved it when the DJ began playing "This is How We Do It" as we ran and danced into the reception, being first introduced as husband and wife. Some of my favorite memories from the reception include my dad and I surprising the crowd with a high-energy father-daughter dance, and then singing “closing time” with all our friends and family at the end of the night. The reception didn’t shut down until the early morning, and everyone was able to enjoy breakfast burritos as a late night snack. It was everything we could have dreamed of, and was truly the best day of our lives! There’s nothing more wonderful than having your dearest family and friends celebrating together in one room. It’s a time and a feeling we will cherish forever.
