Allison + Alex's Lebanon Wedding
From the Bride: No bride ever dreams of postponing their wedding, let alone for a global pandemic. I would be lying if I said our wedding was what we had planned, but I can honestly say it was better than I ever could have imagined. Our original wedding day was June 13, 2020 (we took special photos on this day to commemorate the wedding day that got cancelled) but due to both working in healthcare and the risks of COVID-19 we decided to postpone. We figured if we had had to make such an unthinkable decision, it might as well be for a special date. November 28 has long been in our hearts as it is the anniversary of both my husband's parents and grandparents, who combined have been married for 75+ years. What a testament to love and devotion that we are now able to share.
10 days prior to the wedding, our original venue notified us that they were unable to accommodate our wedding due to new COVID restrictions. However, our bridal team met this situation with the utmost motivation and flexibility. With not a day to spare, we moved the wedding to a lovely historic horse farm and we were honored to be the very first wedding at this new and gorgeous venue. The historic horse farm and manor made for an amazing backdrop in November with romantic and vintage features that perfectly exemplified our relationship.
Our wedding day was perfect and one special moment for me was when my mom buttoned up my wedding dress. As I stared in the mirror a wave of nostalgia hit me. So many memories from my childhood were much like that moment, yet this one seemed monumental. This moment was extra special as I designed, and my mom made extra additions to my dress to make it all our own.
Our ceremony was at St. Augustine Catholic Church where we said our vows in front of our closest family and friends. I loved seeing all of the smiling (and some tearful) faces of our friends and family as we walked down the aisle. The joyous faces made every stressful moment, hard day at the hospital, and struggle we faced during the wedding planning process/pandemic worth it. As we walked down the aisle we stopped for a brief moment to give my mom a hug and his dad a fist bump.
The tent at our reception was adorned with fresh flowers and greenery, twinkle bulb lights, and hues of lush steel blue velvet and burgundy and the sunset was icing on the cake. We had the amazing opportunity to create our very own bourbon blend of oaky, strong notes for my husband, and a taste of sweetness for myself at Bourbon 30 in Georgetown. We titled the bourbon "AG Select," (as both of our initials are AG) and shared this as our toast at our wedding reception. The strong smell immediately hit my nose as our friends and family shared some of their fondest memories during our speech.
My favorite sound from the wedding was the sound of laughter and applause as Alex and I shared out first dance together. It was a moment that truly felt surreal. The only thing I remember seeing is his smile and hearing the sound of laughter and applause as we twirled, dipped, and ended the song with a kiss.
After a night full of dancing, laughing, and smiling from ear to ear I loved our late night build your own mac and cheese bar. As a true child at heart, I consider myself a mac and cheese connoisseur and was very pleased to try not only the BBQ pulled pork mac and cheese, but the Fajita mac and cheese as well. I give it a five star rating!
Although nothing like we planned, every detail of our wedding truly embodied the love we hold for not only each other, but the examples of marriage and devotion that have been set out before us.
