Courtney + Stephen's Spindletop Wedding
From the Groom: It has been said that when you tell someone a story it lives in his or her heart forever. When we were planning our wedding we knew that we wanted the day, venue, and atmosphere to reflect the story of our relationship up until that point in time. We began by selecting September 21, 2019, almost seven years to the day after our first “official” date during our first year of law school - although I think my wife graciously selected this day to make it easier on me to remember later down the line. My wife and I met first week of our first year of law school at the University of Kentucky, and over the course of our time there became enamored with the diverse beauty and scenic landscapes of the countryside surrounding Lexington, so Spindletop Hall in Lexington was a natural selection for our venue.
I remember driving up Spindletop’s long drive on our wedding day, with the mansion’s bronze doors and copper window screens glowing under the late September sun. The majority of the day was spent within the welcoming confines of Spindletop’s classic architecture until our guests began their procession onto the back lawn for the ceremony. The towering columns of the back veranda served as the backdrop to our ceremony and, immediately afterwards, allowed our guests to enjoy a signature cocktail made with Maker’s Mark – whose distillery had been the site of our first road trip together and was the place I proposed several years later. The remainder of the evening was spent in celebration with our close friends and family, and culminated in an impromptu post-reception cocktail at 21C’s Lockbox in downtown Lexington. Ultimately, our wedding day was the the perfect reflection our time together, and a reminder to ourselves that our best memories live in the unexpected quiet moments.
