Sophie and Peter's Historic Church Wedding

From the bride: April 28, 2018, represented Peter and I to a "T." Both wedding parties spent the morning at my parents home... in separate areas of course! Peter chose seven of his closest friends, from high school, college, and Kanakuk Kamps. I chose eight of my closest girlfriends from Ole Miss and Kanakuk, two being my sisters. Our ceremony was held in a small, historic chapel right outside of my hometown of Jasper, Indiana. The white washed wood of the chapel stood out among the fields of wildflowers. Peter's long time mentor and role-model from Kanakuk Kamps married us underneath a huge barn-wood cross in front of our closest friends, family, and God. After spending months of pre-marital counseling with Kris, we confidently said "I do," and then prayed together while taking our first communion together as Mr. and Mrs.

Unlike most girls, my wedding dress wasn't the big item that I had pinned on my Pinterest board for years and years...my bridesmaid's dresses were. Before I even met Peter, I had found floor length, patterned dresses that I envisioned my sisters in as my Maid/Matron of Honor. The rest of the wedding day inspiration flowed out of the simple white floral and greenery design of their dresses! (I absolutely did love my Hayley Paige wedding gown. Even though I kept the dress a secret, my hint to friends was that it was very "Parent Trap"-esque. Think Elizabeth James). I would say that our flowers were one of my favorite parts of the day! Right up there with our flowers was our food - breakfast for dinner: chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, roasted sweet potatoes and Brussels, mimosas, etc., finished with a cinnamon swirl wedding cake, topped with cream cheese frosting. YUM.

Our reception was held in the back yard of my childhood home, complete with big bulbed twinkle lights. Location, again, was one of my favorite wedding day aspects. But so were our guests who came from all four corners of the US to celebrate our marriage. From the white washed chapel to our backyard, each and every piece of our day was personal, beautiful, light-hearted, celebratory, and joyful. I guess I really can't choose just parts of the day to be my favorite, I would do it all the exact same way again!
