Brooklin and Jon Married on Private Farm

Brooklin and Jon’s Vintage Outdoor Wedding

From the bride: From the time I was 14 years old, I had spent countless hours on Pinterest dreaming up my perfect wedding. While I had many different visions over the years of what I wanted my wedding to look like, one look at my venue and I knew I wanted more than anything to be married there. My wedding was held on the farm of my best friend’s family. Both my ceremony and reception took place in a wooded area filled with nothing but tall Black Walnut trees that are over 150 years old! We had around 100 guests, most of which were family and close friends. We wanted our wedding to be extremely intimate, and that’s exactly what it was!

Most of my wedding was DIY. I had a vision of exactly how I wanted my wedding to be and the only way to get it was to do it ourselves. I wanted a Kentucky wedding that no one had ever had before! My dad built a wooden cross for us to be married in front of. Instead of renting tables, I incorporated some furniture including my grandmother’s old vanity as a cake table, and my mother’s childhood dresser as a memory table. A lot of the detail decor came from antique shopping, which is where I found items to create the photo booth. My mother put together my bouquet which was really special to me. My dad spent countless hours smoking over 50lbs of beef brisket and 40lbs of chicken for our “authentic” Taco Bar! Instead of a guest book, we made a guest board for guests to sign; we have this hung in our house so we can read what our guests wrote from time to time. We wrote our own vows—my favorite wedding day moment. We also did an intimate first look before the ceremony—my husband’s favorite wedding day moment. I could go on and on, but I think you get it, it was a dream to say the least.

Most say “you won’t remember anything about your wedding day anyway, so don’t stress the details.” This may be true for some, but I remember every detail of my wedding day because of the work we all put in to make my dreams become a reality. To brides who are planning, don’t let your wedding day be forgotten, especially by you! It is such a sweet, sweet memory that only happens once in your lifetime. Make it yours!
