Lake Cumberland Wedding

We love the way this boat dock was transformed into a beautiful ceremony site. You'll want to check out the Titanic kiss that the couple snuck into their big day, too!

From the bride: When Matt and I got engaged on May 27th, 2016, we were sure of two things: we didn't want to wait a year to get married, and we wanted to be married at our favorite place—Conley Bottom on Lake Cumberland. Matt's parents have a house boat, lovingly named "Lady Pez" after Matt's mom, docked at Conley Bottom. Since Matt and I have been together we have spent our summers on the water at Lake Cumberland. I have always told Matt that the lake is my happy place.

I wanted our wedding to feel very light, casual, and laid back, which was accomplished through a color palette of light pinks, soft greens, grays, whites, and tans. These colors were used in our florals, which were created by Bluegrass Blooms in Winchester. Our florist, Elizabeth, grew our flowers in her home garden just for our day. She surprised me on our wedding day with a uniquely shaped bouquet and a wooden frame that was covered in beautiful live flowers to use for photos. Along with a soft color palette, I also wanted some vintage elements incorporated into our design. I used my great-grandmother’s blue mason jars for the florals on the tables at the reception, along with old suitcases, antique tables, and soft lace to pull in vintage flavors. When thinking about what I wanted in a dress experience, I knew I didn't want to do a traditional bridal boutique. While I was searching for styles that I liked, I came across Anthropologie's Bridal line, "BHDLN." My mom ordered all the styles that I thought I may be interested in. When they came in my mom, mother in law, and myself had a very quiet and special try on session at home. It was exactly what I wanted out of the experience.

Our ceremony took place on pier 6 at Conley Bottom. We used "Lady Pez" for Matt and his groomsmen to get ready on and rented another houseboat for my bridesmaids and me. I wanted our ceremony to be very simplistic and the lake to be its beautiful self. When our guests arrived to the ceremony they could choose to take a boat shuttle driven by family friends to pier 6 or walk the scenic route. One of my favorite moments from our day occurred during the ceremony. There had been an overcast all weekend and it had sprinkled off and on. Just as our pastor, Bill Fort, was delivering the blessing, the sun popped out and began to set.

Our reception took place at Conley Bottom Marina on a covered dock. Another one of my favorite moments was during our reception. My grandmother requested that Matt and I open a gift from her. It was a quilt she had hand made for us made from all my childhood blue jeans that my mother had saved. This quilt is so special and something we will always look at and think of my Nanny. Matt and I could not have dreamed of a more perfect day that truly reflects who we are!
